Something for Everyone – Thursday, 1 October

Come and spend the whole day at the National Library tomorrow, 1 October. We have something for everyone and, when you’re not attending an event, you can enjoy coffee, cake and other delicious meals at our two cafes, bookplate and paperplate.

Here’s what’s on the menu:

  • for the 6 – 8 year olds, Build Your Own Ballet will give you the chance to make ballet costumes, design sets and dance! This special school holiday activity commences at 10am. Cost: $15
  • music lovers and readers will enjoy the next exhibition talk, Nick Cave, Reader. Exhibitions Curatorial Assistant Penelope Grist will explore Nick Cave’s reading habits and literary influences. Come to the talk at 12.30pm and then visit Nick Cave: The Exhibition. Free.
  • lovers of biography and Australian writing will want to come to the launch of The Intimate Archive: Journeys Through Private Papers at 4pm. This new National Library publication examines the personal lives of Australian writers Marjorie Barnard, Aileen Palmer and Lesbia Harford. Authors Maryanne Dever, Ann Vickery and Sally Newman will talk about their book before a book signing and refreshments. Free.
  • supporters of the Indigenous Literacy Project, film lovers and sports fanatics will all want to join us at 6.30pm for a special Indigenous Literacy Fundraiser. Join Kevin Sheedy AM, one of the AFL’s best-loved figures, champion sprinter Patrick Johnson, and sports commentator Tim Gavel at a special screening of the new Australian film, September. Tickets cost $25 (including refreshments) and all proceeds go to the Indigenous Literacy Project.
