Review of our online catalogue

In May 2008 we launched our “new” catalogue. This catalogue was launched to meet the ever increasing expectations of our users and it meant we could deliver features and a service that we were never previously able to do. Now, 12 months after the launch, our users expectations are still increasing and we want to find out a bit more about our users and how we can help them.

The Library, with the help of Stamford Interactive, is currently undertaking an intense 3 week user centred design project to find out who our users are and what they come for. This project will use techniques such as user surveys, user profiling and user walkthroughs to help us design a better catalogue for our users.

Over the course of the project we will be making our findings available here on our blog and hopefully give our users a bit of an insight into what goes in to making our catalogue more effective for them.

We have had an amazing response to our survey. It has given us a lot of confidence in defining our user profiles. The results were not a huge surprise to some people, but to others they were. Our biggest users to emerge were the family history and professional researchers. The next phase of the project is to recruit based on these profiles, and setup user walkthrough sessions.

Thank you for informing me of your latest survey results.
Am very interested in your conclusion that the next phase should involve in regard to Family History
a setup user walkthrough sessions. I look forward to future moves in this direction.
