Warwick Cathro
Warwick started by explaining that there is lots of information about the service behind the About tab, including technical details of the new platform. Many contribution pathways, from services such as Picture Australia and People Australia.
Warwick did a live search in Trove for well-known Australian writer, Ethel Turner. There are links to books by and about her, the TV series Seven Little Australians, and biographical metadata but no maps (as intended).
Trove is supported by lots of harvesting from authoritative Australian sites. It is architected to expose wonderfully rich local collections in public libraries.
Warwick did a search on Beerwah in Queensland. An image of picking pineapples, by a gentleman named Allister Fullerton. The Director-General, Jan Fullerton, identified this image as her father. In real time, Warwick added a comment to say so, reflecting that it is now possible to capture information from the general public who may have information about any iten in the service.
Jan said she is completely addicted to Trove, and loves to spend hours following strands of interest. It is the highest evolutionary work in the last 40 years of sharing. Finding Beerwah took infinite work, over many years, now brought together in the one place. We can find things we never dreamed of finding before. It is a testament to the vision of Australian libraries and their collaboration. Jan acknowledged the staff of the National Library, who accept the challenge of change. Jan thanked Warwick Cathro as project leader, thanked the IT project team, and declared the service launched.
