About

At the National Library we’ve  always collected much more than just traditional books and magazines. They’re only one part of our “Australian story”. What we really love are the things you might not expect – that give spice to the mix! Comics, posters, ephemera, alternative press and some wonderful hand published material like artist’s books and zines. We love the creativity and the inventiveness we see coming across our desks every day!

We want to share this with you and let zinesters, writers and artists know exactly how we feel about their amazing work and also show what happens to it once it arrives at the National Library. So we’ve created The Eloquent Page blog. It’s a place for staff to talk about some of the less well known or “non-mainstream” parts of our amazing collection, to celebrate the quirky and the fun – in fact all things a little fringy!

Through The Eloquent Page we will show you what we collect and why we do it, how we house it and manage it, lots of new things and some of our favourite old ones, special events and much, much more. This is a place for us to share our passion and excitement with you and of course we want to hear from you! Please let us know what you think of our blog, what you would like to know more about and ask us any questions about collection development, management  or the Library either via comments on the blog or email us at zines@nla.gov.au

We hope we can surprise and entice you!
